UPDATED 10/16, 2:05 p.m. ET: Paul Dano has been cast as The Riddler in Matt Reeves' upcoming, The Batman, Variety reports. The studio didn't confirm the role, but Variety's sources "believe" that Dano will be playing the iconic Batman villain.

The news comes days after it was reported that Jonah Hill pulled out of the film, after rumors circulated that he was set to play either The Riddler or Penguin.

Deadline reports that Jonah Hill is no longer in talks to play the villain in the upcoming Matt Reeves-directed film The Batman.

It's being reported that talks between Warner Bros. and the two-time Oscar-nominated actor's team simply broke down. The news of Hill's departure from The Batman comes days after Reeves seemingly confirmed that Zoë Kravitz has joined the cast and would be playing the role of Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman.

When rumors of Hill being linked to The Batman first surfaced late last month, speculation led those online to assume that he would play The Penguin after a source toldThe Hollywood Reporter that Reeves planned to have "at least two villains," one of which being The Penguin. However, multiple outlets suggested that the 35-year-old actor was pegged to portray the Riddler.

Warner Bros. have since moved forward with their search for actors who can fill the roles of the two rumored villains. There is reported "interest" in having Seth Rogen assume the role of the Penguin, but "no offers or talks occurred."

Aside from the casting of Kravitz and Robert Pattinson in the titular role, Jeffrey Wright has also been announced to play Commissioner Gordon.

The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
