John Wick: Chapter 4 is getting pushed back to 2022. Lionsgate announced Friday that as part of a widespread repositioning of its release schedule, the fourth installment in the John Wick franchise will now hit theaters on May 27, 2022.

Spiral, the Saw reboot from Chris Rock, has also been delayed a full year to May 21, 2021.

Back in December, moviegoers anointed May 21, 2021 as “Keanu Reeves Day” when it revealed that both of his highly-anticipated movies, Matrix 4 and John Wick: Chapter 4, would be coming out on that same day. The likelihood of that serendipitous circumstance took a hit after the coronavirus pandemic halted the production of all Hollywood projects.

Chad Stahelski, the director behind all three John Wick films, anticipated Lionsgate would eventually delay the release of the franchise’s fourth installment since Keanu had just started filming Matrix 4 when everything was put on hold.

“Between how much we want to expand the John Wick — let’s just call it a ‘franchise’, I guess — and the pandemic, I couldn’t tell you a release date for the next one,” Stahelski toldCollider.

“I mean, Matrix was only four weeks in when this all happened. So, Keanu’s gotta go finish his commitment up on The Matrix, which is a big deal and which I think will probably take him until the end of the year. Then we have to go into our prep mode… Release dates, who knows right now.”
