Like it or not, Valentine's Day is upon us and chances are you'll want to share what you're up to online. However, there's a right and a wrong way to do it, especially if you want to exude a certain level of class. To that end, we've compiled five do's and don'ts to help you navigate the web, no matter what social platform you're using. Just remember, whatever you do will live on indefinitely, so make sure your digital footprint has some thought (and sweetness) behind it. Otherwise your move will fall flat like a cheap chocolate rose.
Do: Self-Edit As Necessary
As fleeting as the conversation may be, remember: The Internet does not forget. Take care with whatever you post online, and when you do, keep three things in mind: Keep it upbeat, relevant and necessary.
Don't: Instagram The Gifts You Didn't Buy
Sharing the gift you got is good. Sharing the gift you refuse to buy because you're a cheapskate, however, is just tacky. Who wants digital proof that their date is a moron?
Do: Creatively Drop Hints
Whether you're staging a choose your own adventure-style date or just want to tease what you've bought, use apps like Vine or Instagram to keep your date guessing and make them feel special.
Don't: Share What Porn You're Watching
Whether you're in a relationship or not, we guarantee no one is interested in what turns you on, much less your employer who is probably keeping tabs on your online activity.
Do: Organize An Event
So you're flying solo. Who cares? Get your friends together for "The Hangover" reenactment that never was or a field trip to see "Die Hard" via Facebook or Google Events.
Don't: Display Thirst Of Any Kind
We get it, she's hot. But your chances of scoring a date with her-or any girl who happens to stumble on your class-parched comments (read: THIRSTY!)-are about as slim as her waistline.
Do: Make A Mix
The mixtape era is over, but that doesn't mean you can't flaunt your musical chops online. Slow-jam the date with a Jodeci mix or let Sade do the talking on Spotify. Share it accordingly, remix, repeat.
Don't: Vine A Sextape
Another Internet no-no, unless the porn industry's cutting your checks. Consider how you'd feel if someone you know discovered it. Then only post what you're both comfortable with.
Do: Host A Google Hangout
If you won't get a chance to chat face-to-face, show your love over Skype or a Google Hangout. Both are free and fun.
Don't: Facebook Stalk Your Ex
Now here's a guaranteed way to ruin the day. Why waste time pining for someone who's over it? Log off and engage with someone in real life-we promise you'll feel a lot better.
