The Marvel Cinematic Universe—or should we say multiverse—is about to get much bigger, and the studio has delivered the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The teaser also appeared as the second post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home over the weekend. Marvel also dropped a poster that gives us a glimpse at Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, whose presence (and actions in WandaVision) loom large in the clip.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the heavily anticipated sequel to the first Doctor Strange film from 2016. The cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch as the good Doctor, Rachel McAdams reprising her role as Strange’s love interest Dr. Christine Palmer, Benedict Wong as the new Sorcerer Supreme Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor returning as Mordo, and newcomer Xochitl Gomez making her MCU debut as America Chavez.

In the comics, Chavez can kick open star-shaped holes in reality. Based on the brief glimpses of her in the teaser, it looks like she might be playing in integral role in helping Strange bounce through different realities as he tries to clean up the mess he made by tampering with the stability of space-time in his solo film by overusing the TimeStoneAvengers: Infinity War when he got snapped, and No Way Home when his spell when haywire.

All things considered, Strange has a lot of cleaning up to do, and it looks like his irresponsible use of magic will have dire consequences that even involve an evil version of himself, a character some theorize might be an homage to the Disney+ series What If…? which also featured a darker variant of Strange.

Watch the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness up top. It’s due May 6, 2022, directed by Sam Raimi (the original trilogies for both Spider-Man and Evil Dead) and penned by Michael Waldron (Loki) and Jade Halley Bartlett.
