Here's a lesson in using the Internet for good. Your own good.
Two 14-year-old kids from Winnepeg looked up the manual for their local grocery store's ATM, and found it online. So why would they want to find the operator's manual? Because they have something pretty important: the default system passwords for the machines. The teens, Matthew Hewlett and Caleb Turon, used the system passwords to send the ATM into administrator mode, from which point they could have either taken money, or set up card skimming software. Instead, though, they changed the ATM's homescreen to read "Go away. This ATM has been hacked," and told the store's employees.
What a shame.
