The NYPD Is Starting Its Own "Pro-Cop" Rally Next Week

How could this go wrong?

The New York police department, which last week got away with choking a man to death, will throw a tone-death rally next week. In response to public outcry over the grand jury decision not to indict officer Daniel Pantaleo for killing Eric Garner, the NYPD is having its own pro-cop rally at City Hall Dec. 19.

Somehow we can't see it garnering as much support as the protests organized across the country. If anything, this will be a great chance for counter protest. The NYPD welcoming pro-cop banners is just asking for the opposite to happen. And, in a move the department should have anticipated, #ThankyouNYPD has already been taken over by people rightfully upset about police brutality and the unfair treatment of minorities.

Who in NYPD communications thought "Well the #myNYPD hashtag backfired. But #ThankYouNYPD in the midst of police protest is foolproof"

#ThankYouNYPD for giving all my friends protesting the murder of #EricGarner a place to stay overnight rent-free. Handcuffs seemed excessive

Don't be surprised if the NYPD ends up bailing on this poorly conceived idea.
