The social media activity of members of Congress in the United States is monitored just as closely as public appearances and television re-election campaigns.
Most times, Twitter is used as another extension of a candidate's ability to reach or reassure an electorate. Other times they use the social media platform to tacitly endorse amateur chefs right before a grease fire engulfs a studio apartment.

Michael J. Hudson dropped one of the greatest #Struggleplate tweets the world has ever known. The above image of chicken being cooked directly on an electric burner would be legendary enough even without the accompanying caption of, "hell yeah benihana up in this bitch,". What pushes all of this into the realm of the legislative branch would be the retweet from the offices of Rep. Keith Ellison. The Democrat from Minnesota left the RT on his Twitter page for a brief 25 seconds before finally being removed. As of today Rep. Ellison's press and communications assistant, Isaiah Kirshner-Breen, took responsibility for the tweet.

Two things we can take away from all of this: hire a social media manager if you don't understand how the Twitter works, and everybody, everybody loves Benihana.
