Justin Bieber is officially applying for American citizenship.

Since being discovered on YouTube nearly ten years ago, Bieber has spent the majority of his career within the United States. Originally from Canada, Bieber moved to the U.S. at age 13 at the advice of Scooter Braun and Usher. Additionally, Justin's recent engagement to model Hailey Baldwin may be one of the motivators behind his decision to seek citizenship.

The singer has the option of revoking his Canadian citizenship, however based on his recent property purchases that doesn't seem like the avenue young Justin is going to take. Bieber recently bought a 5 million dollar mansion atop 101 acres in his home province of Ontario.

The steps one must take when applying for U.S. dual-citizenship are rather lengthy. In addition to proving you have a right to be in the country, which the singer does, you must fill out a number of forms that initiate the naturalization process and undergo an FBI background check. Bieber will also have to prove that he's familiar with U.S. history and government.

Although his upcoming marriage to Hailey Baldwin is definitely a guiding light, it would also help him expedite the citizenship process, since after all, he's marrying a U.S. citizen. Once all of the necessary steps have been completed, he will undergo an oath ceremony and pledge his allegiance to the United States. Bieber will then be able to vote and run for public office, although we may have had enough celebrity politicians for one decade.
