There's been a lot of hubbub surrounding the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in recent months, and it seems like we've heard relatively little about Nintendo's newest release, the Wii U, since it dropped in November. Apparently, the numbers can back this observation.
Touted as the company's eighth-generation offering, the handheld/console hybrid is supposed to be a torchbearer for the video game giant but was reported to have moved just 160,000 units from from April 1 to June 30 this year. You read that right: 160,000 units in a three-month span. Worldwide! Yikes. Even more disconcerting for the company: over that same span the Nintendo Wii sold 210,000 units. Not a good sign when the console you're pushing for the future is getting outstripped by its outdated predecessor.
Detailing their turnaround strategy, Nintendo stated that:
