Alex Trebek, the longtime host of Jeopardy, is taking a leave from his question master duties after having surgery to remove a subdural hematoma on December 16, 2017, per Deadline.
Trebek is slated to return to the show he has hosted for more than 33 years in mid-January, and is expected to make a full recovery. He sustained the hematoma (blood clots in the brain), after falling and hitting his head in October.
The Canadian television personality issued a video statement on January 4 through the Jeopardy YouTube channel.
"After two days in the hospital, I came home to start recovery. The prognosis is excellent and I expect to be back in the studio taping more Jeopardy programs very, very soon," he said.
In May, Trebek extended his contract to run through the 2019-2020 season, so we can all expect plenty more entertaining trivia, grammatically correct rap references, and hopefully opportunities for Trebek to put "nerdcore" hip-hop fans in their place.
