Just like Richie Finestra's record label American Cemetery Century, Vinyl isn't dead yet either. The new HBO music drama, executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire's Terrence Winter, and Mick Jagger, has been renewed by the network after only one episode. Get ready to see even more sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, in 1970s New York City for season two.
Vulture reports HBO renewed Vinyl on Thursday. Vinyl stars Bobby Cannavale as the previously mentioned Finestra, the head of a record label trying to play the family man who's gone sober. (Spoiler alert: He fails.) Olivia Wilde, who viewers sadly didn't get to see enough of in the two-hour series premiere directed by Martin Scorsese, plays Finestra's wife.
Deadline reports Vinyl only got about 800,000 viewers, which can be explained in part because the premiere could've been shorter and more importantly because it went head-to-head with The Walking Dead during its Sunday premiere as the AMC series returned for its season six midseason premiere. Guess low ratings and mixed reviews weren't enough to discourage HBO.
Episode one may not have been an indication but I bet I'm going to be as hooked on Vinyl as Finestra is on drugs.
Vinyl airs on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m.
