Canada's Design Exchange Auctions Off Notable Modern Design

Canada's Design Exchange hosts the second annual design auction with pieces from Zaha Hadid, Paul Smith, Kelly Wearstler, Eero Saarinen and more.

The Guest by Jaime Hayon

Within certain circles of the Canadian (and American) hipster elite, it has become quite fashionable to ditch the idea of collecting art like the generations before them. Instead, this younger generation has turned to collecting some more untraditional investments like sneakers (this has been well documented) but they also have turned to collecting design: furniture, industrial and objects. Perhaps this trend emerged organically, or perhaps it comes from very the highly stylized (and designed) music videos and fashion editorials that saturate our culture. Either way, the same kids that flock to Art Basel, now flock to design auctions.

Enter Canada's Design Exchange and their annual auction to help them fill homes with covetable design. The auction will feature a curated selection of design, from furniture to accessories and objects in between. Notable pieces include Niche by Zaha Hadid, a lamp by fashion designer Paul Smith, some vintage Chanel, the always collectable HBC blanket (a must have for every hipster abode), and The Guest by Jaime Hayon. Included in the mix are pieces from notable Canadians including award winning firm Castor design and EQ3. Oh yeah, and throw in some Kelly Wearstler and Eero Saarinen too. The pieces run the gamut from the rare and cutting edge to transitional and decorative. They are all highly collectible and coveted. These are the kind of items to make your friends jealous and your Instagram the better.  If you have discovered a love for good design, then you don't want to miss out on this opportunity to nab the most acclaimed and sought after home furnishings and décor. All proceeds go to the DX to help fund its initiative to showcase design.

If you are ready to pick up a paddle and snatch some good design, be sure you are free for the auction on June 14th. For more information please visit the Design Exchange.

The Design Exchange is Canada’s only not-for-profit museum dedicated exclusively to the pursuit of design excellence and preservation of design heritage.
