Players will not be able to team when playing through the story of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog told Gaming Examiner. There will be some kind of multiplayer offering, just not anything connected to what we've seen so far.
"We're not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented, however we can say that it is not co-op within the main campaign," said creative director Neil Druckman.
The comment doesn't rule out the possibility of a stand-alone co-op series, similar to the ones in the Uncharted series. Beyond that, it's anybody's guess.
