Intro

Instagram—the free photo sharing service for your iPhone and iPad—is the latest social network to catch on and grow exponentially, specifically within the hip-hop community.

For years, rappers have claimed that they document the culture, but now they really can! Every Andre 3000 is now an Ansel Adams. And how better to show that you're not only large, but also in charge, than by throwing a 1977 filter on a flick you took of yourself not-caring, but really caring?

So follow us (and follow us on Instagram! @ItsTheRealJeff and @ItsTheRealEric) as we take a stroll down other peoples' memory lanes, with The 25 Rappers You Should Follow on Instagram!

Why you should follow: What else is there left to say about Tyler? KITTENS IN SPACE. WAFFLE CRISPZ. DEMI LOVATO. MEXICAN BIKER WIGS. LIONEL RICHIE SCREENGRABS. It is bizarre, it is random, it is Tyler's world.

Rick Ross

Rick Ross

Photos taken to date: 40

Why you should follow: The MMG captain is in a lot of these pictures, front and center, looking bossy in a uniform of black Lacoste tee, huge sunglasses. It's entirely possible that all of his Instagram uploads were taken in one day, and he's just spacing it out for as long as it lasts. Then again, no one's living larger than Ross right now.

Cam'Ron

Cam'ron

Why you should follow: Killa isn't using Instagram to show us his daily activities, where he's been, or where he will be. He just wants to showcase the thickest of the thickest girls' asses. And showcase he does! Actually, on second thought, he may very well be detailing where he's been, and where he will be.

Chuck Inglish

Chuck Inglish

Instagram name: OldInglish
Followers: 1,521
Date joined: January 2012
Photos taken to date: 42

Why you should follow: As the more understated half of The Cool Kids, Chuck Inglish's pictures are unsurprisingly understated. Like Chuck's beats, the photos feel classic, bare-bones, and just right. But what really sold us was the play on his name - OldInglish—hilarious, and smart, and of course, understated.

Stalley

Stalley

Instagram name: Stalley
Followers:5,178
Date joined: March 2011
Photos taken to date: 84

Why you should follow: Stalley, being from the middle of Ohio, finds Americana in the air. There are two-prints of Bruce Springsteen, big-bodied Pontiacs and even star-spangled marijuana roll-ups. The colors are bright, not lost at all in the shadow of his ever-growing beard.

David Banner

David Banner

Instagram name: DavidBannerlikespics
Followers:3,833
Date joined: December 2011
Photos taken to date: 153

Why you should follow: David Banner, political activist, and rapper, is not what you'd expect on Instagram. Sure, he chronicles his time spent at a bunch of charity events; he mugs for the camera with Common at a promo stop. But when he first joined the service, he kept placing animal figurines in sex positions and taking pictures of them. Frog and duck, chicken on toad; lambs doing anal, rabbits giving handjobs. He doesn't do that as much anymore. But, the memories remain.

Why you should follow: YoungKrizzle is fresh to the Instagram game, and still trying to find his camera voice, it seems. But, he timeline carries historically significant images, as well as a running timeline of his schedule, for those of you interested in stalking the Mississippi MC.

Casey Veggies

Casey Veggies

Instagram name: YoungVeggies8
Followers:4,742
Date joined: September 2011
Photos taken to date: 56

Why you should follow: Hate the word, but love the kid: he's got "swag". His first picture is of him and Jay-Z hanging out—whether on Instagram or in the music industry, he knows how to make an entrance.

Freddie Gibbs

Freddie Gibbs

Instagram name: FreddieGibbs
Followers:82,684
Date joined: November 2011
Photos taken to date: 32

Why you should follow: Sure, Freddie's got the requisite rapper images—like weed, guns, fast cars, and private jets—but no rapper's Instagram is as G as Freddie's. Freddie documented the TSA giving him a pass on flying with weed in his suitcase. So while we know what's in his luggage, we can't wait to see what he's got up his sleeve! C'mon son.

Fabolous

Fabolous

Instagram name: MyFabolousLife
Followers:82,684
Date joined: June 2011
Photos taken to date: 174

Why you should follow: Scrolling through Fab's timeline is like winding a rap video through a rare show at the penny arcade. There are cigars mixed in with jewelry and shoes; Young Jeezy, boats and Louis Vuitton-print basketballs. As with his Twitter account, it can sometimes be too much -- the man is like our aunt, sending dumb Photoshops around—but think of it as malaria: you stick around, you'll catch some fly shit.

Kreayshawn

Kreayshawn

Instagram name: Kreayshawn

Why you should follow: The queen of the White Girl Mob's Instagram: proof, for when you can't believe she really exists.

Theophilus London

Theophilus London

Instagram name: TheophilusLondon
Followers:8,809
Date joined: August 2011
Photos taken to date: 338

Why you should follow: Regardless of what any other rapper on Instagram tells you, they're not the most stylish. Theophilus London is, and he has the account to prove it to you. His style is David Bowie here, Fab 5 Freddy there. See him with Alexander Wang in one photo, with Kanye West in the next. Catch him hitting on Gayle King, and even mean-mugging next to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Whatever he's wearing, and whoever he's with, Theophilus is styling on them.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg

Instagram name: SnoopDogg
Followers:154,695
Date joined: January 2011
Photos taken to date: 121

Why you should follow: Ansel Adams was well-known for his photographs of rugged terrains in the American West, and Snoop deserves the same recognition: notice the chiaroscuro of the rolling hills of this one picture.

Danny Brown

Danny Brown

Instagram name: xdannyxbrownx
Followers:1,864
Date joined: September 2011
Photos taken to date: 20

Why you should follow: For those of us who don't smoke, Danny Brown's Instagram is what it must be like in the mind of a stoner. Medicinal bottles. Fat buds. rolled joints. Random guy on the couch, with the caption, "This guy." Lots of pictures of Starting Lineup figures, in their original packaging. Oh, and nearly every picture he's published is out of focus.

Action Bronson

Action Bronson

Instagram name: ActionBronson
Followers:2,236
Date joined: December 2011
Photos taken to date: 55

Why you should follow: It's well known that Action Bronson is a former chef, so it's only right that he blesses us with food porn that expands the waistline (as well as what's below). It inspired one commenter to actually write, under a picture of three cheeseburger sliders, "Nice brioche buns (no homo)."

Asher Roth

Asher Roth

Instagram name: APRoth
Followers:21,051
Date joined: September 2011
Photos taken to date: 57

Why you should follow: Asher Roth's Instagram is the ultimate picture, so to speak, of his life: half J.Crew and half Dazed and Confused. Sunkissed rooftops. Funny pictures with friends. Drinks and smokes. Big Lebowski and Wayne's World references. It's a spot-on representation of what would happen if a record company didn't know what to do with you.

Freeway

Freeway

Instagram name: PhillyFreeway
Followers: 3,549
Date joined: November 2011
Photos taken to date: 184

Why you should follow: Freeway loves the camera that faces him. If someone could make Freeway smiling into an emoticon, then life would be perfect. How could you not 'like' photos of Philly Freezer staring into his iPhone, puppy dog eyes and horse mane beard? Of course, if you want variety, there are his famed Throwback Thursday uploads of time spent as a member of the Roc chain gang. Awesome.

Bun B

Bun B

Instagram name: TrillOG
Followers:15,373
Date joined: June 2011
Photos taken to date: 565

Why you should follow: Bun B is an OG who understands technology and, true to form, he was early adopter of Instagram. His account is not only the perfect compliment to his Twitter, but since it features the concerts he sees, the shoes he wears, the food he eats, and the Texans games he attends, all he needs are pictures of cats, to become the epitome of Tumblr.

MC Hammer

MC Hammer

Instagram name: MCHammer
Followers:23,865
Date joined: April 2011
Photos taken to date: 295

Why you should follow: MC Hammer takes so many pictures of high-rises and all-over-the-world fancy trips, one wonders if he really did go broke. (FACT: Nope, he still did.) This is the documentation of a life of corporate gigs and front-row Raiders games, and we're not mad at that. We do wish there were more scans from 1991, but we'll settle for shots of Busta Rhymes and Hammer at the Gathering of the Juggalos.

Soulja Boy

Soulja Boy

Instagram name: souljaboytellem
Followers: 89,122
Date joined: April 2011
Photos taken to date: 797

Why you should follow: The rapper who put Myspace on the map, uses his Instagram to keep the "Myspace picture alive." His mirror pics feature lots of bleary eyes, gold jewelry, pink sprite, celebrities (Sean Kingston, Tyler), Air Mags, along with screenshots of his texts with Drake.

Mac Miller

Mac Miller

Instagram name: eternalsunshine4aspotlessmind
Followers: 47,655
Date joined: October 2011
Photos taken to date: 85

Why you should follow: Mac Miller's handle alludes to a person who erases memories, and yet, here he is taking pictures of his life at the top. The irony is bedazzling, though: a life of free Jordans, high-sky plane rides and iced-out Buddha chains. What more could a kid want? (It's not all Richie Rich ballpits, though: he documents his trip to Harlem's famed Big L mural. As a huge fan of Big L's, this is a moment Mac clearly doesn't want to forget.)

Jay Electronica

Jay Electronica

Instagram name: jayelectronica
Followers:8,838
Date joined: November 2011
Photos taken to date: 24

Why you should follow:The mysterious Jay Electronica leaves us little clues as to where in the world he is through his Instagram: sitting amongst South Asians on a crowded street, hunting with some WASPy Brits, observing the pyramids in Egypt, talking with a Tibetan monk. Still no clues on when he'll be dropping his debut album... OR ARE THERE???

Pharoahe Monch

Pharoahe Monch

Description : Instagram name: warmonkey
Followers: 4,120
Date joined: May 2011
Photos taken to date: 328

Why you should follow:Pharoahe Monch's photography skills are unmatched here: he's got a knack for finding the beauty in everyday scenes, but he also has the luxury of traveling to exciting locales (Australia, Portugal...Coney Island). Worried this click would be too highbrow? SIMON SAYS: GET HIS FOLLOWERS THE FUCK UP.

Big Sean

Big Sean

Instagram name: BigSeanGOOD
Followers:70,8258
Date joined: September 2011
Photos taken to date: 96

Why you should follow: Why mess with a G.O.O.D. thing? That's why Big Sean goes for consistency: uploading tons of eerily similar pictures of him sandwiched within his concert crowds, waving the West Side hand signal, amongst all his very excited, and very white fans.

Wale

Wale

Instagram name: walemmg
Followers:49,228
Date joined: December 2011
Photos taken to date: 42

Why you should follow: Wale's Instagram is a look at Wale's life—on the road, in the studio, in his many, many, many fancy-pants shoes—but mostly as seen from someone else's vantage point. It's The Truman Show, with Jim Carrey in a knit hat and Jordans.
