It’s been almost a year since Kevin Hart’s whirlwind Oscars fallout took place, and now the comedian will be looking back on the moment.
Netflix and Hart will be releasing a docuseries that follows him during the past year of his life, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Titled Don’t Fuck This Up, the show premieres on Dec. 27 on the streaming platform, just two weeks after Hart’s latest movie, Jumanji: The Next Level makes its debut.
Over six episodes, the docuseries will chronicle how he navigated his day-to-day life in the aftermath of the Oscars controversy. The series will feature interviews with Hart’s family and friends, archival footage from his childhood, and early stand-up gigs, as well as personal anecdotes. The comedian’s HartBeat Productions is producing.
Hart announced the docuseries on Instagram on Tuesday, saying the look into his life will be “a hell of a rollercoaster; peaks, hills, valleys, ups, downs. It's as real, as raw, as transparent as you could be.”
Last December, within 24 hours after Hart announced he’d be hosting the Oscars, he faced backlash for past homophobic tweets and jokes that he’d made on Twitter and in comedy routines. Instead of apologizing for his past indiscretions, he deleted the tweets and instead wrote a long, non-apologetic Instagram post. He also shared that the Academy called him to ask for an apology, which he had “passed on.”
Hart finally decided to step down as host, and issued a real apology, tweeting, “I'm sorry that I hurt people. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.”
Hart has been recovering from severe back injuries after a near-fatal car accident in September. Earlier this month, the comedian said that he's in no rush to return to comedy and that he was feeling “great” and “blessed to be alive” as he continues to recuperate.
