He is risen, to the top of the ratings.

Despite some Christian groups calling for a boycott of the show, Adult Swim's Black Jesus beat every other thing on cable in the ratings Thursday night.

The show also had more viewers than most of the network series that night, including The Quest, Rookie Blue, Gang Related, Welcome to Sweden and Workin the Engels, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The show by Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder had slightly more than 2 million viewers.

As you might have guessed, a show called Black Jesus, featuring a blunt-hogging, f-bomb-dropping Christ living in present-day Compton has pissed off a few people, such as the perputually-offended American Family Association.

A few black ministers have defended the show, however, including Christopher House, who points out that McGruder's show has the potential to be socially productive in a Huffington Post piece, and Philadelphia pastor Leslie D. Callahan, whose opinion piece in Time  points out all the other things worth boycotting more than a comedy satire on the Cartoon Network.

As Black Jesus himself said in the premiere episode: "I come through spittin' the gospel all the time, but ya'll ain't trying to hear your boy though."
