Horrified passengers wailed as a man plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on Friday, Nov. 6 after purposely throwing himself overboard on the Royal Caribbean cruise shipOasis. On Saturday morning the U.S. Coast Guard called of its search for the passenger, who has now been identified as a 35-year-old man from Brazil.
Video footage captured by passenger Jennifer St. Laurent recorded the man's fall which has now been published by Yahoo. The video shows the man shouting, "Let go of me!" and "You don't touch me!" shortly before letting go and falling into the sea.
The ship was returning to Port Everglades, Fla. after a seven-day cruise through the eastern Caribbean. The rescue began on Friday and included one aircraft with seven crew members that joined the flight at 4 a.m. Coast Guard Petty Officer David Schuhlein told the Sun Sentinel on Friday that the plane was flying, "all the low search patterns in the area." By Saturday morning the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast tweeted that the search was suspended.
In a statement made to the Sun Sentinel, a care team sent by Royal Caribbean international has been deployed to provide support to the man's family.
