The Kardashian clan makes their living by shaping ongoing and intriguing narratives around themselves. That's the only reason we can find behind the news that Kris Jenner is kick-starting the argument about whether or not her daughter Kylie is a "self-made" billionaire.

The reality TV matriarch went on CBS Sunday Morning and revived the argument from last summer about whether the cosmetics CEO and reality star can count her fortune as "self-made."

Last year, the designation on the cover of Forbes caused a stir that even made the folks behind Dictionary.com weigh in.

Clearly, it stuck with her mother.

"I think she's self-made," Kris said. "Listen, my girls, you can say that certain things have been handed to them. But it takes a lot of work to do what they're all doing."

Kris echoed the line that Kylie has drawn, noting that none of the money that went into her business was inherited.

"The money she's made is her own," Kris said. "It began with her own savings. She put her own blood, sweat and tears into it. It was her idea. It was amazing what she did, and what she showed the rest of us how to do it."

"Nobody gave her any financial help whatsoever," she continued. "She saved up her own money and built this amazing business and I just feel like there's nothing not self made about that."

Kylie has pointed out that the platform granted to her by her family's successful reality TV show definitely counts as a leg-up.

"I can't say I've done it by myself," she told the New York Times recently. "If they're just talking finances, technically, yes, I don't have any inherited money. But I have had a lot of help and a huge platform."
