Black Widow's long-awaited first solo film might be a bit more adult than you would expect from an Avengers tie-in.
Rumors are circulating that Natasha Romanoff's first standalone outing could be the first R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney higher-ups revealed the possibility of age-restricted Marvel movies on a call with investors earlier this week.
“We think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool, as long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine,” CEO Bob Iger said.
Fans are worried that the R-rating might hurt Black Widow's box office take and that that might be used as evidence that the popular character can't carry a movie.
That Black Widow might get an R rating makes sense, since the film would follow a Russian agent whose superpower is shooting people. If your otherworldly skill is putting bullets in folks (shouts to Deadpool), an R-rated film isn't entirely uncalled for.
The film is scheduled to drop in 2020.
