A standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars film reportedly might happen. Stephen Daldry, the Oscar-nominated director of Billy Elliot and The Hours, is in talks to get the project off the ground. If the deal does, in fact, go through, Daldry would write and handle development of the project in collaboration with Lucasfilm.
A script has yet to be written for the movie and no actor has been cast for the role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan. Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan in the original trilogy while Ewan McGregor played a younger version of the beloved character in the prequels. McGregor has previously expressed that he would be willing to reprise the role.
A standalone Han Solo film is nearing completion. After switching hands, Ron Howard is now directing the picture. Alden Ehrenreich will play Han Solo, Woody Harrelson will play Beckett, Han's mentor, and Donald Glover is playing Lando Calrissian. Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke and Westworld's Thandie Newton will also be in the film. The untitled movie has an expected release date of May 25, 2018. Lucasfilm is also reportedly considering a standalone Star Wars film that will center around Yoda.
Daldry, who has directed and produced for the theater, was nominated for an Emmy for directing an episode of Netflix's The Crown. Though details are limited, keep your fingers crossed that the talks for a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi film go smoothly and the project comes to fruition.
