Someone threw Molotov cocktails at the Rio de Janeiro headquarters of the Brazilian comedy group that created a Netflix special depicting Jesus as gay and Mary as a weed smoker.
The attack happened early Christmas Eve, Variety reports. Two petrol bombs were thrown at the headquarters of Porta dos Fundos, sparking a fire. No one was harmed in the bombing, though it "endangered several innocent lives in the company and on the street," the comedy group said. Security camera footage of the incident has been given to the police.
Porta dos Fundos sparked controversy with its comedy special The First Temptation of Christ, which currently has a petition of about 2 million people calling for the streaming platform to remove it because it offends Christians.
"Porta dos Fundos condemns any act of violence. We expect those responsible for the attacks to be found and punished. However, our priority right now is the safety of the entire team that works with us," the comedy group said in a statement.
"We will speak again once we have more details," they continued. "Meanwhile, Porta dos Fundos would like to reinforce our commitment to good humor and declare that we will move on stronger, more united, inspired, and confident that Brazil will survive this storm of hatred, and love will prevail along with freedom of speech."
