**Spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home follow**

After Avengers: Endgame went without credit scenes, Spider-Man: Far From Home made up for it with two huge ones that hint at the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The mid-credits scene sees Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio reveal Spider-Man's true identity: Peter Parker.

While many thought that could be another trick from Mysterio, who often tricks his enemies with illusions, writers Chris McKenna and Erick Sommers told TheWraphow viewers should actually interpret the scene. Fans theorized that Mysterio didn't actually die, and that he tricked everyone into thinking so. They also believed that the video of Mysterio revealing Spidey's identity was an illusion for Peter Parker's eyes only. "

I think you can take it on the surface for how the moment plays out and how it’s just laid out," McKenna explained.

Unless there's some sort of huge retcon or plot twist in a future MCU movie, it would appear that Mysterio is actually dead. Another credits scene featured the revelation that the Nick Fury that teamed up with Spidey in the movie was actually a Skrull. The writers said that decision came fairly late in development.

"That was Jon Watts, that was late in the game, playing with the idea of the thematic evolution," McKenna explained. "When you’re doing a movie about con artists, it’s always fun to have as many twists as possible. If there was anyone who questioned how Nick Fury was fooled by Quentin Beck, it’s a fun solution to anyone who would have a problem with THE Nick Fury falling for the illusion."
