With the highly anticipated DC Comics release Aquaman finally arriving on Dec. 21, Warner Bros. Pictures has shared the final trailer for the James Wan-directed movie. Starring Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, Aquaman is the latest installment of the DC Extended Universe. The new trailer gives us a slightly longer look at Willem Dafoe's character, Nuidis Vulko, who will help Aquaman find a special trident to help save the underwater city of Atlantis.

Filled with dramatic moments and lots of action while still taking a moment to have some fun, the trailer promises a much more crowd-pleasing affair than that of the darker Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In fact, the colors in the trailer showcase just how much of a departure this is from the rest of the DCEU, promising some stunning special effects that look to inspire awe rather than fear like previous entries in the nascent cinematic universe.

As reported last week, Amazon Prime subscribers will have the opportunity to watch Aquaman a full five days before its wide-release. The advanced screenings for the film will take place on Dec. 15 at participating theaters. Early reviews have so far indicated an improvement over 2017's Justice League, which received mixed reviews.

The film follows the release of Justice League, which performed under expectations, as well as the highly successful Wonder Woman. Next year the DCEU will get drop  Shazam!, which looks to be taking even more of a fun route, essentially giving the impression it'll be more of a comedy than its peers. Meanwhile, Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 are scheduled for 2020.
