Issa Rae Trashes Kanye West's Slavery Comments at CFDA Awards

West should probably expect to continue being slammed for this for a long time.

Monday night's Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards ceremony was hosted by Insecure creator/star Issa Rae, who used a couple chunks of her time onstage to lampoon Kanye West.

"I'm about as fashionable as Kanye is black," Rae said, according toUSA Today. "Only when it's convenient. That joke was my choice, just like slavery." Though West wasn't in the house for the ceremony, Kim Kardashian apparently was, as she was on hand to receive the Influencer Award.

The joke, of course, is a response to West's "400 years? That sounds like a choice!" remark during a TMZ Live appearance last month. Though the widely trashed comments did receive a nod on West's new album Ye, the lyrics in question didn't offer much in the way of clarity or additional insight into why West spent the weeks leading up to the release dabbling in the far right.

Rae, on a lighter note, also mentioned Virgil Abloh during her onstage comments Monday night. "A man making clothes too expensive for everyone regardless of race," she joked. "That is the future liberals want."

Ahead of the ceremony, Rae dropped a new teaser for the upcoming third season of her HBO original comedy Insecure. In case you missed it, and/or in case you happen to like enjoying good things more than once, here it is:
