Heading into E!'s pre-Oscars Live From the Red Carpet broadcast Sunday evening, Ryan Seacrest's involvement in the show was under scrutiny in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations from his former stylist Suzie Hardy.
On the night of the first Academy Awards since the Harvey Weinstein story broke and the #MeToo movement began, it appeared that Seacrest wasn't able to land the level of high-profile interviews that we're used to seeing from the red carpet veteran. Several stars did stop to speak with him, however, and the night was largely without incident—perhaps because of a rumored 30-second delay put in place by the network.
One of Seacrest's interviewees did manage to toss a little dig at his controversial situation, however. When Taraji P. Henson stopped by for a quick chat, she threw shade in the most subtle, classy way possible.
After Seacrest asked for comment about Mary J. Blige’s multiple nominations, Henson replied with a touch of sarcasm, "You know, the universe has a way of taking care of the good people.”
Then, tilting her head and placing her hand on Seacrest's chin, she added, "You know what I mean?"
While the dig was about as subtle as you can get, people watching at home immediately picked up on the tone of Henson's response and praised her addressing the elephant in the room.
