George Clooney cares about international justice. Remember when he was arrested during a protest outside the Sudanese embassy? It was the same week that he spoke with President Obama about the violence in the Sudan and testified before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.
This weekend he went all the way to Armenia to lend his famous face in support of another international cause, according to the New York Post. Clooney attended a memorial to mark the 101st anniversary of the massacre of 1.5 million Armenians that began in 1915 at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.
The subject is somewhat controversial, as Turkey, formerly the Ottoman Empire, as well as others countries, including the United States, refuse to officially recognize the killings as a genocide, instead chalking them up to civil war. Clooney has reportedly been pushing for other countries to recognize the genocide for years.
Clooney appears to be one of the most politically active celebrities in Hollywood these days. He penned a letter trashing Donald Trump, and held an insanely expense fundraiser dinner for Hillary Clinton that cost more than $300,000 to attend, an amount of money even he admitted was "obscene."
Would anyone be surprised if Clooney pulled a Ronald Reagan / Arnold Schwarzenegger and eventually tried to make the transition from movies to running for elected office?
