Authorities in New York believe a retired White Plains, N.Y. police officer killed his two teenage daughters and the family pets before taking his own life yesterday.

The New York Daily News reports that the bodies of 52-year-old Glen Hochman and daughters Alissa and Deanna, 17 and 13,  were found at their Harrison, N.Y. home yesterday afternoon. Neighbors told the Daily News that the family pets were also killed. At the moment, the specifics of the incident are unknown; autopsies are expected to fill in the blanks.

According to the Daily News, Hochman's 50-year-old wife, Anamarie DiPietro-Hochman, and 22-year-old daughter, Samantha, were out of town at the time of the murders. Hochman retired from the White Plains Police Department after 22 years last month, and News 12 in Westchester claims that he and his wife were experiencing a rocky period in their marriage.

In a statement, White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong addressed the tragedy:

The department is shocked and horrified by the news of this unfathomable tragedy, Chong said in a statement provided to the Daily News. We can only pray for the family.
