More than 150 congressional staffers walked out of their jobs Thursday afternoon, standing silently on the Capitol steps in Washington D.C. to protest recent grand jury decisions not to indict police officers in the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

The staffers silently raised their hands in a "hands up, don't shoot" gesture, creating a powerful image in the nation's capital.

The walkout was organized by Congressional Asian Pacific American Staff Association, the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association and the Congressional Black Associates. Senate chaplain Barry Black led the group in prayer and said they were there to be a "voice for the voiceless," the Daily Beast reported.

A larger protest led by Rev. Al Sharpton is expected to bring thousands of people to the streets of Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
