Marvel Studios has already taken over the world, and now it's taking over a classroom at the University of Baltimore. A new class for Spring 2015 called "Media Genres: Media Marvels" will examine the effects of Marvel on modern culture, especially in regards to the "hero's journey."
According to the professor teaching the course, Guardians of the Galaxy has proven two things: "Mainstream movie audience are not remotely tired of superhero movies; and Marvel Studios can now release a sci-fi adventure that actually features talking trees and raccoons. ... They've created a universe in which fans completely accept these developments, and they're ready for even more."
This class confirms it: Marvel Studios has become a big fucking deal.
