Guardians of the Galaxy is officially the movie of summer. After today, the comic book-inspired film is expected to reach the $246 million mark domestically, passing Transformers: Age of Extinction. It's pretty safe to say that this time last year, nobody thought Guardians would beat out a Michael Bay sequel and Chris Pratt would be a huge star.
The movie has also made more in the U.S. than big-budget blockbusters Maleficent, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Transformers is still way ahead of everyone worldwide at over $1 billion; Guardians' global total is around $430 million right now. Luckily, Marvel has already announced a 2017 sequel.
