We told you a couple of days ago that The Lone Ranger was bombing. But now the numbers are officially in, and the Disney-Johnny Depp collaboration could go down as the biggest box office flop of the year when all is said and done.

With a rumored price tag of $250 million, Ranger roped in $29.4 mil over the weekend and only $48.9 million during the whole holiday haul since its Wednesday opening. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Despicable Me 2 is breaking Independence Day release records, with $82.5 million on the weekend and $142 million total since Wednesday. The budget was only $76 million.

This is Disney's biggest fail since last year's John Carter, and a complete fail from the same team (including director Gore Verbinski) that delivered the money machine known as Pirates of the Caribbean. We tried to set Johnny on the path back to A-list supremacy years ago. Maybe now he'll listen?

In related box office news, Kevin Hart pulled in a strong haul with $17.5 million over the long weekend. Let Me Explain is on track to become one of the highest-grossing stand-up movies of all time.
