On October 19, Marvel Comics will officially unveil the last issue of the long-running series, Uncanny X-Men. After the events of Fear Itself and X-Men: Schism, the X-Men will be a mere shadow of their former selves, and Uncanny X-Men #544 will act as both the end of an era and the beginning of a completely new chapter in their legacy. The issue will be written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Greg Land.

Courtesy of Marvel, we have some preview art from this final issue of Uncanny X-Men, along with a brief tease from the company, via press release: "They’ve been through it all together, and now they’re on the dawn of a new age. And when you throw Mr. Sinister into the mix – there’s no telling how this one will end! Join us for the end of the industry-shaping series with Uncanny X-Men #544."

Initially launched as The X-Men back in 1963 by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, Uncanny X-Men has been the standard bearer for the X franchise, featuring classic story arcs such as The Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, and Mutant Massacre. For fans just getting to know the X-Men because of the recent animated series and X-Men: First Class, this new beginning for the team is the ideal time to hop on and read about Marvel's merry mutants on a monthly basis.
