Spotify UK & Ireland has announced the well-deserved promotion of Safiya Lambie-Knight as the streaming giant’s new Head of Music.

Lambie-Knight joined Spotify in 2019 in a genre specialist role, and more recently as artist and label partnership lead for the UK & Ireland. She has been described as “an integral part of the team” and a “key figure across the UK music industry”, and in her new role, she will be responsible for Spotify’s local network of editorial playlists and promotions.

The British exec has played a key role in several initiatives, including Who We Be: Live, the global rollout of Radar for emerging artists such as Central Cee, and the digital edition of Notting Hill Carnival. She has been also praised by presenters of the Who We Be podcast, Harry Pinero and Henrie Kwushue, for her role in providing opportunities for young Black people.

“I’m delighted to say that Safiya Lambie-Knight is being promoted to become our new Head of Music for Spotify UK and Ireland,” says Spotify UK & Ireland MD Tom Connaughton. “As the Head of Music for the UK & Ireland, Safiya will be responsible for Spotify’s local network of editorial playlists and promotions, whilst ensuring every artist, manager and label sees Spotify as the No. 1 partner for artist development and monetization, and the No. 1 place to connect, create and inspire.

“She will continue to be based in London and report directly to me. Safiya joined Spotify 3.5 years ago and in that time has continuously delivered outstanding results for Spotify UK & Ireland, and our partners—first in her genre specialist role, and then more recently as ALP Lead for the UK & Ireland.” He added: “Saf’s promotion not only speaks to her expertise, but also the strength of the UK & Ireland music team and the industry-leading work that they are carrying out, day in and day out.”
