Quavo revisits his infamous elevator altercation with ex-girlfriend Saweetie in the video for “Messy” with Takeoff

At the 2:45 mark, Quavo is captured on security footage leaning against the corner of an elevator. The scene is in reference to the reported 2020 incident involving him and Saweetie in which she swung at him before a struggle ensued inside an elevator at an apartment complex in North Hollywood.

The scene ends with Quavo picking an orange Call of Duty case and shrugging at the camera. In the surveillance video, Quavo appeared to push Saweetie to the ground as the two wrestled over an orange Call of Duty case. He ended up placing the case in a way that prevented the elevator door from closing, and waited for Saweetie to get up from the floor.

Quavo released a statement in response to the elevator footage, denying he was ever physically abusive towards Saweetie. “We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from,” he said. “I haven’t physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall.”

“This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on,” Saweetie said of the incident.

The two broke up before the video surfaced. Saweetie confirmed their split on Twitter, sharing a somewhat veiled message about what led to them parting ways. “I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character,” she wrote. “Presents don’t band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.”
