Kendrick Lamar has declared Baby Keem a “musical genius.”
The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper made the statement via Twitter on Saturday, as he and Keem are on the road for The Big Steppers World Tour.
Keem, who is also Kendrick’s cousin, was the first artist to partner with pgLang—a media company launched by K. Dot and Dave Free in 2020. The 21-year-old rapper has connected with Kendrick on a number of records, including “Savior” off Kendrick’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers album, as well as “Family Ties” and “Range Brothers” from Keem’s The Melodic Blue project.
Keem spoke about Kendrick during a 2021 interview with Nadeska Alexis, saying their relationship went “beyond music.”
“Whenever I need anything regarding, like, life, and if I need some wisdom, then that’s who I go to, you know?” he explained. “That’s one of the first people I look towards, him and Dave Free.”
In praising another pgLang artist, K. Dot also said Tanna Leone was the “generation next.” Leone appeared on “Mr. Morale” on Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. He recently released Sleepy Soldier this past May.
Finally, Kendrick praised the tour.
Complex’s own Andre Gee attended the show in Dallas, which you can read here.
