The Weeknd’s XO Records continues to grow as their newest signee Chxrry22 released her debut EP The Other Side.

The 7-track project fits right into XO’s style with sultry vocals and moody beats scattered across its brief 20-minute runtime. The production was mainly handled in-house by Sensei Bueno, but veteran producer Childish Major also has his fingerprints on the closing track “Wasteland.”

The Other Side is about coming to terms with duality – we all have two sides,” explained Chxrry22 in a press release. “We can be both the villain and the victim in some story and this is me owning that.”

The Weeknd lent his support on his IG feed.

Chxrry22 was born and raised in Scarborough to Ethiopian immigrants. After first dabbling in making music in 2017, she then moved to Atlanta to pursue a career more seriously. In April 2022, she released “The Falls,” the EP’s lead single and her first song under the XO imprint.

Two days after the release of the EP, Chxrry22 released a snippet of her cover of The Weeknd’s “Sacrifice” offering a slowed-down ethereal take on the Toronto star’s massive hit from this year.
