UPDATE 7/26, 12:41 p.m. ET: Travis Scott’s Utopia show at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt has officially been canceled.

In a statement on Wednesday, Live Nation said the decision had been made “despite highest efforts,” noting that “complex production issues meant that the show could not be constructed in the desert.”

Reps confirmed with Complex that the statement was official. Refunds will be issued.

Travis Scott's previously announced Utopia-launching show at the Pyramids of Giza has not been canceled, despite reports claiming otherwise on Tuesday.

“There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt,” Live Nation told Complex. “Any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate Utopia with you in Egypt!”

A tweet from Live Nation was also sent out confirming the news.

Word of an alleged halting of the show first arose early Tuesday, with the Paris-based news agency AFP reporting that Egypt’s Syndicate of Musical Professions had cited “strange rituals” that “go against our traditions.”

Scott, like a number of his contemporaries, has often been made the subject of the modern-day equivalent of baseless Satanic Panic conspiracies. The use of the phrase “strange rituals" could be interpreted as an intended reference to this, though it wasn't immediately specified what the group meant in its alleged statement.

Performances in the historic locale have been given a full go-ahead in the past, the group were alleged to have added, but only if the events “do not undermine the ancestral customs and traditions of the Egyptian people.”

Earlier this month, Scott announced the performance with a date of July 28. According to a press release issued at the time, the event at one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World was designed to serve as an immersion into “the world of Utopia.” A livestream of the performance was also announced.

The album, Scott's first solo full-length since 2018's Astroworld, doesn't yet have an official release date (at least as far as the public is concerned). However, pre-orders were launched in recent days, with accompanying press notes highlighting that the album will be available in five different artwork options.
