Shouts to the Weeknd, director Joachim Johnson, producer Rebecca Hearn, and editor Dylan Coughran. Their new collab, the video "He Was Never There," just dropped and it's fantastic.
See for yourself up top.
The short's title, of course, is a nod to My Dear Melancholy standout "I Was Never There," featuring the inimitably versatile Gesaffelstein. Speaking of similarly existential titles, the new must-see Joaquin Phoenix movie You Were Never Really Here opened in select cities this past weekend and you should totally see it. But I digress.
The Melancholy EP's welcomed return to sadness earned Weeknd his third straight No. 1 release. The EP landed in the top spot of the Billboard 200 with 169,000 equivalent album units. According to Republic Records, the EP now holds the record for the largest streaming debut of all time.
The melancholia will be alive and well at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this weekend and next in Indio, California. The Weeknd will be joined by Beyoncé, Eminem, Bleachers, Haim, Migos, Post Malone, St. Vincent, and more on the 2018 edition of the always stacked lineup.
Anyway, this has been my mood all month:
If you're also in a "," state of mind, do what I did earlier this morning: Listen to Trilogy front to back, followed by Melancholy. It's a vibe.
