Charges will not be filed against Kanye West in connection with an alleged punching incident claimed to have taken place earlier this year, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office confirmed to Complex.
Ye will not be facing charges over the alleged incident due to a conviction on such charges being unlikely. In a statement provided to Complex, a Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office rep said the decision to not pursue charges had been reached following a look into any possible evidence.
“After a thorough and careful review of all the evidence, our office is declining to file based on no reasonable likelihood of conviction,” the rep said.
The alleged incident in question occurred during Ye’s well-publicized Julia Fox era earlier this year. At the time, Ye was claimed by the Los Angeles Police Department to have been named as a suspect as part of a battery report. While the man alleged to have been punched had been described at the time as a “fan,” Ye later told Jason Lee in an interview with Hollywood Unlocked that the individual had been seeking an autograph at the time of the initial argument.
“I ended up getting into an altercation with the individual that wanted to make money off my autographs,” Ye said.
Later this week, Ye fans will be given the official release of the “Use This Gospel” remix featuring Eminem and produced by Dr. Dre and The ICU. As fans will note, Ye tweeted about the remix way back in September 2020, declaring it “North West’s favorite Kanye West song of all time.” It will appear on DJ Khaled’s new album, God Did.
