Embattled singer R. Kelly continues to fight growing allegations of pedophilia and various forms of sexual misconduct after a taped conversation with a woman suing Kelly went public.
According to TMZ, a woman suing Kelly for allegedly drugging her and transmitting an STD to her while she was 19 recorded the conversation. There are no specifics, but the man alleged to be Kelly does mention the woman’s parents during the course of their conversation.
“Your father and mother don’t like me… they know that’s real,” notes a voice on the recording that sounds similar to Kelly’s. “And I just lectured you all the time to teach you certain things and try to make you a better person…[inaudible]… a young adult or whatever.”
Those remarks appear at the 57-second mark in the video above.
The accuser, whose name has not been disclosed due to privacy concerns, is now 20 and has filed a criminal complaint against Kelly.
The TMZ audio recording and related allegations come as Kelly and his public relations team deal with their own internal problems. Friday, Kelly’s management team renounced a statement sent out on the singer/songwriter’s behalf.
“An early Friday-morning email sent by Katie Thompson on behalf of R. Kelly Tours claimed the media was trying to distort and destroy his legacy by reporting allegations that he sexually mistreats women and said the singer was ‘heartbroken’ over it,” the Associated Press reported.
A jury acquitted Kelly of child pornography charges in 2008, but detailed allegations of Kelly targeting underage women have followed him for decades dating back to an alleged marriage to the late Aaliyah in 1994.
