Over a decade ago, Kanye West was holed up in his New Jersey home studio, working on new music for Rhymefest and preparing to release his debut album. In 2010, ChannelZeroTV released two videos titled "The High School Graduate" that take you into Ye's life in the studio for an afternoon. There's a ton of quotables; he explains why it's okay to sing on top of the sample singing, and shares a story about Aaliyah rolling through the studio with Dame Dash. While the majority of the clip focuses on new Rhymefest songs, it's always interesting to hear Kanye hype himself up even before his album dropped. "When I do my album, I'm finna take it to the next level so get your pens and pads ready," he says.
In the second clip below, you'll hear an early version of "Jesus Walks" and a completely different version of "Livin in a Movie." The finished track is on his Freshman Adjustment mixtape, but in the clip above you'll hear him drop his now infamous line, "No one man should have all that power" around the 6:53 mark in the video during an early draft of the track. Danny Joe Sorge, who filmed the clips, scans over some early features on Ye, as well.
It'd be incredible to find out who lives in Ye's old apartment in Jersey now, and what that room is used for these days.
