Shaq, who hilariously calls himself “Beyoncé’s biggest fan literally,” may have a new career in lip-syncing Beyoncé songs, because if his new Instagram video is anything to go by, I’d be shocked if people didn’t start throwing money at the guy to do this on a weekly basis. Turns out when he's not taking part in one of the weirdest rap beefs of the year, he's also a dedicated performer.
“I’d rather be blind than not sing my favorite artist,” Shaq captioned the video. The song "I'd Rather Go Blind," while sang by Etta James, was covered by Beyoncé on the soundtrack for the film Cadillac Records. The best part of Shaq's video is everything that happens around Shaq during the video: he’s in an office kind of setting with a television on in the background and at least three people can see him absolutely getting down. His passion for the art of lip syncing is obvious, and his talent is immeasurable. He even nails the background vocals parts! Can this video be nominated for a Grammy?
To be sure, this kind of excellence doesn’t come without a lot of practice. Shaq has been at this game for a long time, most notably in a December 2016 tweet in which he lip synced once again to a version of “All Night.” (He also likes “Halo,” though, just so you know.)
Dear Beyoncé this and HALO is my jam. I hope you win all the GRAMMYS pic.twitter.com/cEgGDI3fzP
“I hope you win all the Grammys,” the NBA Hall of Famer wrote at the time, and every single person on the universe agreed. Beyoncé arrived at the 2017 Grammys as the most nominated artist of that year, but won just two (Best Urban Contemporary Album for Lemonade and Best Music Video for “Formation”) of the nine Grammys she was nominated for that year. I’m sure Shaq would agree with Kendrick Lamar and Adele that Bey was robbed. 2017 was also the year she gave that beautiful performance of “Sandcastles” and “Love Drought” just days after announcing she was pregnant with twins; she also gave a moving speech on the importance of Lemonade.
