Four years on from the release of his breakout project, Still Working, Slim returns with its sequel. Still Working 2, we’re told, was recorded in just one month, giving the new collection an audible sense of urgency.
The first volume was a huge smash for the Lewisham rapper, earning plaudits far and wide, not to mention some hefty streaming figures. Unfortunately, not long after releasing the project, he went to prison, briefly derailing his burgeoning career.
Then, this summer, Slim released “Double R’s”, his first drop after being released and a triumphant return. “That was the first song I recorded," he says. "It was the fresh home energy; you can’t re-do that unless you’ve had the experience of getting out."
“It’s coming back from a bad situation,” he adds. “I’m showing them you can come back heavy and hard. No matter what you’re doing, everyone goes through sticky times. It doesn’t have to be jail. It could be anything: a family member could die, your mental health [could be bad]. When you come back refreshed, this song is how you might feel.”
Along with the new tape, Slim has also released the video for Headie One collab “Let’s Talk Money”. Directed by TV Toxic, the new visual captures the pair’s reunion, having previously connected on “Touring” from the original Still Working.
Also appearing on Still Working 2 are Potter Payper, M Huncho, and Mnelia. Production, meanwhile, comes from King Wizard, Sean Murdz, Eren Beats, JJ Beatz, Keeps Productions, Quincy, M1OnTheBeat, Chucks, Fumes, 1stBorn, J-Dan, and Chris Rich.
