Last week, Nigerian rising star Tim Lyre dropped off his new EP, Masta, an eight-track collection that explores some of the global sounds he finds most inspiring and incorporates them into his multi-faceted Afro-fusion style. To that end, he’s called on Tay Iwar, Minz, Khanyisa and Jords for features. The latter, who’s enjoyed a faultless year thanks to the release of his Diamond In The Dirt project in May, features on the title track and it’s just been given a set of visuals.
Fhaud Braimo directs the video and it catches the pair on Jords’ South London turf, knocking out rhymes stacked with self-confidence and charm. As for the instrumental, which has its own steady swagger, Tim himself co-produced it alongside Code6.
Speaking on the collab and how it fits into the wider project, Tim Lyre told Complex: “This song is the centrepiece of this whole project. It’s about believing in yourself and there was absolutely no one better to do this with than Jords. I’m glad we’ve got the video to match the energy.”
