North London singer-songwriter Sidders got his career off to an incredible start, racking up serious numbers for his debut EP About Time. After that, he decided to regroup, teach himself guitar, and take things up a gear. Since then he’s released a steady stream of rap-soul hybrids, building up to his latest, “Live For Something”, which also comes with a set of visuals.
On the face of it, at least in the visuals from director Marcus Austin, “Live For Something” feels nostalgic, tapping into the kind of afterglow feeling we all get as summer fades into autumn. There is, however, a deeper and more important meaning at its heart. The track was originally written in the summer of 2020 during the BLM protests and dreams of a more positive future, prioritising hope over anger.
Speaking on the track’s creation, he explains: “‘Live For Something’ was a product of venting all the frustrations around us. The track is about not getting lost in the noise and flipping any bad energy into our passions and the things in life we appreciate—for me it’s the simple pleasures and love around us that we live for. It’s easy to hear the voices and pressures that try to bring us down but finding what we stand for and doing what we enjoy is how to glide past it all.”
