All this year, Nigerian Afrobeats star Patoranking has been steadily building up towards his fourth studio album, World Best. Ahead of the new LP’s release on September 6, today, he is premiering the video for the latest single, “Higher”, exclusively with Complex UK.
Produced by Mix Master Garzy, it’s another Afrobeats-based fusion track, this time stirring in the uplifting spiritual elements of gospel for the track’s rousing chorus. Playing to that latter element, the Chris Chuky-directed video takes us to church where Patoranking joins the parishoners as they come together to praise God and give thanks for everything they have. That seems to be a running theme for the artist who seems to be at a stage in his career where taking stock is an essential part of moving forward.
Sharing his thoughts on the new video and his journey, Patoranking says: “I have come a long way in my career, and I am proud of how far my team and I have come and showing gratitude to God is all I can do. I hope watching this video makes everyone take delight in giving thanks for all God has done.”
This is the latest single to be taken from the World Best album, following “Kolo Kolo” with Diamond Platnumz, “Abobi”, and last month’s “Tonight” with Popcaan. As for the rest of the LP, details are being kept under the tightest of wraps, but suffice to say the Lagos-born alchemist has gone all out.
