Ever since Lord Apex erupted into our minds with last year's Interplanetary Funk, he's been on a faultless run of drops (not least Smoke Sessions Vol. 2 from last month). Now he's dropping some dreamy visuals for "Snoop SNL", a track taken from the S.O.I.L EP, which dropped late last year. Backed by some bouncing, funk-filled bass and crisp claps, Lord Apex unfurls his hypnotic and densely-packed rhymes that run us through the pop culture references that raised him. The video, similarly stacked with nostalgic notes, features surreal imagery as Lord Apex dons his shining armour to poke holes in hip-hop's usual tough guy imagery.
On the meaning behind the video, director Christopher Rogers told us via email: "The surreal visual follows an armoured Apex haunted by the presence of a fallen comrade. Personifying a stale and outdated image of tough hip-hop. With Apex and the rest of the Elevation Meditation crew firmly setting themselves apart from the pack. It’s only fitting Apex sheds his armour and dons an EM hoody. Planting the flag that these artists are here to stay. So keep your ears open."
