Sheffield-born singer-songwriter Lavelle has shared the video for her new single, “Throwback Thursday”, an alt-R&B jam being overlooked and underestimated, and finding the inner strength to rise above it.
Confident yet vulnerable, “Throwback Thursday” takes cues from that early 2000s era of R&B that celebrated vulnerability and candour and then stirs in a modern, alternative twist via swinging percussion and SV’s silky production style.
For the video, we’re taken even deeper into classic R&B territory with immediately recognisable tropes—the classroom setting and fashion for starters—bringing with them a tidal wave of nostalgia. Flanked by the friends that got her through her heartbreak in the first place, it’s a show of tough-talking resilience from start to finish.
