A few weeks ago, UK drill star Headie One finally put us out of our misery when he released the keenly-awaited video for “Martin’s Sofa”, a track he first previewed towards the end of last year, which fans have been clamouring for ever since.
As we all know, the video introduced us to the titular Martin and told the story of Headie’s earliest days, before all the success, when he would visit Martin and stay on his sofa when times were getting tough and he didn’t have anywhere else to go. So as close as he and Martin were, going to ‘Martin’s sofa’ therefore became synonymous with failure.
To mark the release of the visuals, Headie also put together this 20-minute film that follows him as visits Martin and his wife and ultimately gifts them a brand new sofa to say thanks. As it turns out, it was the first time he’d seen Martin in quite a few years and it gets pretty emotional.
In the end, for a track that details one of the toughest periods in his life, between the music video and this new short film, it actually ends up being a pretty heartwarming experience. In a brief note to run alongside the video, Headie writes: “This is for all the guys who have to go through struggles without knowing what the next step is.”
