A common topic of conversation in the modern world, especially among younger generations, is the feeling of being burnt-out, rundown, and plagued by the worry that everyone else seems to be doing better than you. It’s that feeling that inspired Amsterdam-based songwriter and producer Gangs Of Kin (aka Joël Gaerthé) and his new single, “Cool Calm & Collected”.

A refreshing take on the ‘rise and grind’ mentality, this funk-edged indie-pop number is no less motivational, but the message to keep a cool head and be kind to yourself along the way is just as essential. Taking a couple of cues from Bowie and Prince at their most upbeat, the driving beat itself should also have no trouble lighting a fire underneath you.

Speaking in more detail on the track’s inception, Gaerthé shares: “We should all march to the beat of our own drum as we all take our time to figure out what we’re doing here. Some keep changing direction. People are quick to judge on one’s ‘success’ and as we grow up we discover that the mistakes we’ve made are just as valuable as the steps we’ve made forward. Within all the chaos, aimlessness and anxiety this is a song to cancel out the noise of outer pressure. The time of splendor comes after the drought. This is a chant to stay cool, calm and collected.”

“Cool Calm & Collected” will be officially released June 28. The new track is lifted from Gangs Of Kin’s upcoming debut EP, Nature Knows No King, which is due for release August 11.
